When a QR code on a post helps

Links in Instagram captions are not clickable. A QR code gives people another way in. Someone viewing the post on a laptop, a TV, or a screen at an event can scan it with a phone, and the same graphic can go straight to print as a flyer.

Give the code room. On a 1080-pixel post, make it at least a fifth of the width, on a plain patch with a white margin, so it survives compression. Check it again after any crop.

Questions

What size should a QR code be on an Instagram post?

At least about 200 pixels wide on a 1080-pixel square, with a white margin. Go larger for a story that people will scan from across a room.

Can people scan a QR code on their own phone screen?

Not by pointing the camera at the same screen. They can take a screenshot and open it with Google Lens or their photo app's scan feature. In a story, a link sticker is easier for them.

Will Instagram compression break the code?

A large, high-contrast code holds up. A small or faint one may not. After posting, scan the live post from another screen to be sure.
